2015 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate
One of the smallest crops on record for Pinot Noir from the Property. However the quality and concentration of what little the vines chose to give us in 2015 was extraordinary. The grapes were picked in early September and gently de-stemmed into small fermenters and allowed to cold soak for 24 hours before being inoculated with cultured yeast strains. The wine was fermented for 14 days, and then pressed into 100% French oak barrels, most of which were second and third filled barrels. The wine was aged on the original lees for over a year, then bottled after 16 months in barrel.
Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:
This one is a blockbuster Pinot Noir! Still quite young at this stage and showcasing a lot of the primary fruit flavors of black cherry, mission fig and raspberry, but continues to evolve as the wine opens in the glass to reveal baking spices, soft earth notes and very soft tannin. Don’t let the opulent yet graceful texture fool you, this one may show well now, but has a solid acid backbone to continue to evolve gracefully in the bottle for the next decade or so.
