2014 Chardonnay, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate

Still quite youthful and tight, yet the focused core of bright citrus fruit is beginning to evolve on what seems like a lighter weight Chardonnay at first, but gains in richness as it opens up. At first, the subtle pear, apple, and lemon meringue quietly work their way forward as the palate shows bright, fresh acidity that carry on through the long finish that ends with a pronounced minerality.

2008 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains

Our First Pinot Noir from the Estate! The richness that this wine shows is surprising at first, as all seems to be balanced and graceful on the palate, but builds as it crosses the tongue. Raspberry and quince mix with damp earth and truffle on the nose, while the dense palate of black raspberry, cherry fruit that imply a sweetness but quickly turns savory with earth, bay leaf, sage and nutmeg on a very long finish. This wine is drinking in its’ prime, but has plenty of stuffing to last for another 6-10 years.

2010 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains

This is a vintage that really expresses the forest that surrounds the vineyards. The aromatics tend towards forest-floor like earthiness, almost mushroom-like, before evoking the blackberry and raspberry notes. The palate gives more of the same with blackberry, earth, black tea, bay leaf and shiitake mushroom before the lengthy finish that ends with a bracing acidity and expressive minerality.

This Pinot has a long life ahead of it!

2012 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate

Expressive aromatics of blackberry, damp soil, allspice and jasmine. The warmth of the vintage is evident in the forward fruit on the palate, yet the fruit still appears fresh, rather than jammy. Blackberry mingles with red raspberry while damp earth and shitake mushroom notes fill in the mid-palate, ending with spice and rose petal and a pronounced mineral like note.

2014 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate

At this stage, this wine is quite lively with springy acidity and forward black fruit aromas and flavors. The front loaded palate delivers a big pop of juicy black currant, almost liqueur-like, then leads to savory notes of black licorice, allspice, and a lingering minerality. Deceptively light on its’ feet, the density and layers of complexity that lie just beneath the surface suggest that this wine has a long life ahead of it, and could benefit from a few more years in the bottle, or a few hours of decanting. Enjoy!

2009 Syrah, Santa Cruz Mountains

Still one of the more “California” style Syrah we’ve made to date, although as the wine has aged, it has managed to shed some of that youthful fruit and gain more mid-palate complexity. Although a fairly weighty wine, It comes across as polished, and easy to drink. The warm blackberry pie notes are quickly joined on the palate with mocha, nutmeg and a touch of earth that hangs on long and very dense finish

2010 Syrah, Santa Cruz Mountains

A unique expression of Syrah that really shows more of the savory side, although there are hints of wild berry fruit lurking behind the earthier notes, which may continue to build as the wine gains age. The subtle blackberry notes mingle with leather, black olive and allspice, all balanced on a medium weight frame, ending with bright acidity.

2012 Syrah, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate

Classic expression of Syrah from the estate, and has a lot of the warmth of fruit in both the nose and palate; a result of the ample sunshine of the vintage. However, the fruit was picked before getting “too ripe”, allowing for the freshness of the natural acidity to be maintained, and excellent tannin structure. Notes of Pepper, coriander and cumin spices linger before the blackberry fruit notes that all seem beautifully integrated on a very long palate that ends with a touch of cinnamon, earth and mineral.
