2011 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains, Estate
Picked in late September, the fruit was fully destemmed into one ton fermenters, then was cold soaked for 36 hours. The wine was pressed after an extended maceration into 100% French oak barrels, 25% of which were new. The wine was allowed to remain on the original lees for the first year, then bottled without filtration after 12 months in barrel.
2011 was an unusually cold and rainy vintage, with incredibly low yields. Although only seven barrels were produced, what little wine mother nature gave us in this vintage was of very high quality. Though lighter in color and weight, the balance and finesse of the cooler year is clearly outlined with expressive aromatics and vibrant acidity.
